Population

Seventy-five athletes aged 19 to 31

Exposure conditions

No cold exposure. Five-minute breathing conditions.

Outcome measured

Heart-rate variability during breathing at 5 to 7 cycles per minute versus spontaneous breathing

Limitations

Short laboratory breathing study in athletes without cold exposure. HRV is not equivalent to a guaranteed subjective state change or generalized regulation.
